A Different View - One Burnt Light

On Christmas Eve, my wife and I were reflecting on the year that was nearly ending whilst dining at a restaurant. I started to complain about something that didn’t happen the way I wanted it to.

My wife focused her attention in a Christmas tree that embellished the place. I thought that she wasn’t interested in the conversation, so I changed the subject: “This tree has a beautiful illumination”, I said.

“Yes, but if you look carefully you can see one burnt light among dozens. ”

It seems to me that instead of thinking this year as dozens of enlightened blessings, you chose to look at the one light that did not glow.”

Cold, Dark and Evil

Professor and Students

A University professor at a well known institution of higher learning challenged his students with this question. "Did God create everything that exists?"

A student bravely replied, "Yes he did!"
"God created everything?" The professor asked.
"Yes sir, he certainly did," the student replied.

The professor answered, "If God created everything; then God created evil. And, since evil exists, and according to the principal that our works define who we are, then we can assume God is evil."

The student became quiet and did not answer the professor's hypothetical definition. The professor, quite pleased with himself, boasted to the students that he had proven once more that the Christian faith was a myth.

Another student raised his hand and said, "May I ask you a question, professor?"

"Of course", replied the professor.

The student stood up and asked, "Professor, does cold exist?"
"What kind of question is this? Of course it exists. Have you never been cold?"
The other students snickered at the young man's question.

The young man replied, "In fact sir, cold does not exist. According to the laws of physics, what we consider cold is in reality the absence of heat. Every body or object is susceptible to study when it has or transmits energy and heat is what makes a body or matter have or transmit energy. Absolute zero (-460 F) is the total absence of heat; and all matter becomes inert and incapable of reaction at that temperature. Cold does not exist. We have created this word to describe how we feel if we have no heat."

The student continued, "Professor, does darkness exist?"
The professor responded, "Of course it does."

The student replied, "Once again you are wrong sir, darkness does not exist either. Darkness is in reality the absence of light. Light we can study, but not darkness. In fact, we can use Newton's prism to break white light into many colors and study the various wavelengths of each color. You cannot measure darkness. A simple ray of light can break into a world of darkness and illuminate it.

How can you know how dark a certain space is? You measure the amount of light present. Isn't this correct? Darkness is a term used by man to describe what happens when there is no light present."

Finally the young man asked the professor, "Sir, does evil exist?"

Now uncertain, the professor responded, "Of course, as I have already said. We see it everyday. It is in the daily examples of man's inhumanity. It is in the multitude of crime and violence everywhere in the world. These manifestations are nothing else but evil.

To this the student replied, "Evil does not exist, sir, or at least it does not exist unto itself. Evil is simply the absence of God. It is just like darkness and cold, a word that man has created to describe the absence of God. God did not create evil. Evil is the result of what happens when man does not have God's love present in his heart. It's like the cold that comes when there is no heat, or the darkness that comes when there is no light."

The professor sat down.

Curiosity of Bus Conductor for Knowledge...

I generally go to office in my two-wheeler but nowadays, for some reason I take a bus.  Most of the buses from my place are never empty but today, I was lucky to fine one good place to sit.  I was sitting at my place & as usual reading book I carry along with me, this time it was 'Connect the Dot' by Rashmi Bansal.

Few minutes after, I was surprised to see conductor coming to me and asking me to lift the book so that he can read the cover page of the book, probably interested in the title of the book.  Quite surprising, as in Bangalore I have not come across conductors who prefer English as language, they more resort to Kannada, local language of Karnataka.

What was going to happen next was the thing which was going to take me to next step of my surprise and probably an important incident to motivate this post.

Conductor gave me a chit and a pen and humbly (they are not so often, this guy was surely different) asked me to write down the name of the book.  Surprised and happy to it, I wrote on chit and gave it to him.  Story doesn't end here... I observe him putting the chit into his personal pocket, giving me a feeling, he is going to get the book or read it somehow.

The passion of this guy to know and gain knowledge, reinstated my belief in phrase 'expect the unexpected', for whatever he is going to do with the chit or the book, he is more curious to going knowledge, which is very important. This guy will very well go down in my memory because this are those little pearls which is generally neglected in one's life.

Perception - Think Twice

Trees from Train Window
A 24 year boy seeing out from the train window, shouted,
"Dad, look the trees are going behind!". Dad smiled and a young couple... sitting nearby, looked at the 24 year old`s childish behavior with pity.

Clouds running with Train

Suddenly he again exclaimed "Dad, look the clouds are running with us!" The couple couldn't resist and said to the old man, "why dont
you take ur son 2 a good doctor?"

Old man smiled and said "I did and we are just coming from the hospital, my son was blind from birth, he just got his EYES today".
This is probably the most apt example of why one should see the different views of the happening around ourselves.  Always remember before making perception, think twice.

Its the Climb!!!

The lyrics of this video is one of the most amazing and inspiring one's.  On personal front this song fills me with lot of positive energy every time I am low.  It aptly describes that losing or winning is not at all important, the important is that we tried, we reached a stage where it can be decided that it was a win or lose.

I copied the lyrics of this beautiful song to sing along:

I can almost see it
That dream I'm dreaming but
There's a voice inside my head sayin,
You'll never reach it,
Every step I'm taking,
Every move I make feels
Lost with no direction
My faith is shaking but I
Got to keep trying
Got to keep my head held high

There's always going to be another mountain
I'm always going to want to make it move
Always going to be an uphill battle,
Sometimes you going to have to lose,
Ain't about how fast I get there,
Ain't about what?s waiting on the other side
It's the climb

The struggles I'm facing,
The chances I'm taking
Sometimes they knock me down but
No I'm not breaking
I may not know it
But these are the moments that
I'm going to remember most yeah
Just got to keep going
And I, got to be strong
Just keep pushing on, cause

There's always going to be another mountain
I'm always going to want to make it move
Always going to be an uphill battle,
Sometimes I'm going to have to lose,
Ain't about how fast I get there,
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb

There's always going to be another mountain
I'm always going to want to make it move
Always going to be an uphill battle,
Sometimes you going to have to lose,
Ain't about how fast I get there,
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb

Keep on moving
Keep climbing
Keep the faith baby
It's all about
It's all about
The climb
Keep the faith
Keep your faith

memories with king of gazals - Jagjit Singh

Jagjit Singh, one of the few people who made efforts to popularize Gazals with the common man, passed away today.  I too just like most of the other individuals, feel it as a personal loss, not only because we will miss his voice in new gazals, but more because, I grew up listening his songs & gazals.  Some of them became life saver specially during the sad times of life (everyone will surely agree to this).

There are many many songs which will make us remember Jagjit Singh till eternity, but I of those many is my personal favorite, a song I don't remember how many time I have listened and sung along Jagjit Singh.   This comes from his album SOZ, a combination of two maestro, Jagjit Singh & Javed Akhtar.  The lyrics goes as 'Tammana Phir Machal Jaye...

A humble tribute to a man who contributed, unknowingly, what I am today, may God Bless His Soul.

Wisdom Thought!

In a race of life...

Never always be First, b'coz after a time you will lose vision!

Never always be Last, b'coz after a time you will lose confidence!

But always be second last, b'coz you will have positive confidence that you are not the Last & the vision to explore the worlds of all up ahead...

D 3G funda...

Recently I came across an incident, which made me believe to d power of effective marketing... This time it was d Telecom companies...

Usually in evening we generally do for snacks at our office canteen.  As there are no great options, I mostly end up having plain or masala dosa.  It generally takes about 5-7 minutes to get them after placing order depending on queue.

But today was different.  We got the dosa in less then the usual time, and having a habit of talking to the cook (chef would be appropriate word) asked him casually, "aaj to bahut fatafat dosa ban gaya" (today you made dosa very quickly)and guess what was his reply, "sir 3G ka zamana hai" (it's age of 3G).

I was too surprised to see how creative ads n marketing effect the thoughts of people, in this case a small time cook, you hardly use a mobile for any other purpose then making calls.  Kudos to all d creative advertisers n marketers.

and miles to go before I sleep...

Recently I visited to Rajkot, palce where I was brought up, almost after the gap of 5 years, and felt like being just left that place few moments before. I felt and probably many of other would agree that always the place you are brought up, spend your childhood, both having good & bad memories, always fills you with positiveness, lot and lot of them.  I experienced that during my recent Rajkot visit.

The visit came almost real after lots of uncertainty & difficulties like flight delay, road blocks @ Ahmedabad due to rains, non-availablity of bus tickets but yes, finally I did make it.  That trip made me believe in lot many things, including the Paulo Coelho's quote in The Alchemist, "...when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it." ...whether it was last auto at Ahmedabd airport or a traffic cop emerging from nowhere at ankur charrasta to make a way for my riksha or someone cancelling ticket at last moment in Eagle travels for Rajkot on eve of Raksha Bandhan (its very difficult to get a'bad-rajkot ticket on such days) or a collegian couple discussing their love for each other sitting next to me or a refresing coffee @ darshan after a long time or that late night call after a long time, I think it was the entire universe that day help me to re-live my moments.

The journey was tiring but as soon as I entered home, everything vanished, just like I was here just few second before.  Indeed life always does a full circle and sometimes brings you back to where you belonged.  This visit made me believe in it.

Lastly I got a surprise when I had my hand on a small notebook (perhaps my tution notebook) that was there along with some of old books I (or my mom) preserved, and I was quick to recognize four lines of a poem,  I was very fond of at that time & which defined myself, which I had written on last page along with my traditional three-dot signature... a Robert Frost poem 'Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening'...

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Inking down the entire poem, as a memory & tribute to the life that I lived, not only on that trip, but much before, a period that defines me and made me what I am today...

and miles to go before I sleep

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

I am blind, please help

A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said: "I am blind, please help." There were only a few coins in the hat.
A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words.

Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, "Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?"

The man said, "I only wrote the truth. I said what you said but in a different way."

I wrote: "Today is a beautiful day but I cannot see it."
Both signs told people that the boy was blind. But the first sign simply said the boy was blind. The second sign told people that they were so lucky that they were not blind. Should we be surprised that the second sign was more effective?

Moral of the Story: Be thankful for what you have. Be creative. Be innovative.

I don't know why

A Girl in a Dream

10th Grade

As I sat there in English class,
I stared at the girl next to me.
She was my so called 'best friend'.
I stared at her long, silky hair,
and wished she was mine.
But she didn't notice me like that, and I knew it.
After class, she walked up to me and asked me for
the notes she had missed the day before.
I handed them to her.
She said 'thanks' and gave me a kiss on the cheek.
I want to tell her, I want her to know
that I don't want to be just friends,
I love her but I'm just too shy,
and I don't know why.

11th grade

The phone rang.
On the other end,
it was her. She was in tears,
mumbling on and on about how her love had broken her heart.
She asked me to come over because
she didn't want to be alone, which I did.
As I sat next to her on the sofa,
I stared at her soft eyes, wishing she was mine.
After 2 hours, and one Drew Barrymore movie,
and three bags of chips, she decided to go home.
She looked at me, said 'thanks' and gave me a kiss on the cheek..
I want to tell her, I want her to know that
I don't want to be just friends,
I love her but I'm just too shy,
and I don't know why.

Senior year

One fine day she walked to my locker.
"My date is sick" she said, "his not gonna go", well,
I too didn't have a date, and in 7th grade,
we made a promise that if neither of us had dates,
we would go together just as 'best friends'.
So we did. That night, after everything was over,
I was standing at her front door step.
I stared at her as she smiled at me
and stared at me with her crystal eyes.
Then she said- "I had the best time, thanks!"
and gave me a kiss on the cheek.
I want to tell her,
I want her to know
that I don't want to be just friends,
I love her but I'm just too shy,
and I don't know why.

Graduation

A day passed, then a week, then a month.
Before I could blink, it was graduation day.
I watched as her perfect body floated like an angel
up on stage to get her diploma.
I wanted her to be mine-but
she didn't notice me like that, and I knew it.
Before everyone went home,
she came to me in her smock and hat,
and cried as I hugged her.
Then she lifted her head from my shoulder
and said- 'you're my best friend, thanks' and
gave me a kiss on the cheek.
I want to tell her, I want her to know
that I don't want to be just friends,
I love her but I'm just too shy,
and I don't know why.

Marriage

Now I sit in the pews of the church.
That girl is getting married now.
and will be driving off to her new life,
married to another man.
I wanted her to be mine,
but she didn't see me like that,
and I knew it.
But before she drove away,
she came to me and said 'you came ...!'.
She said 'thanks' and kissed me on the cheek.
I want her to know that
I don't want to be just friends,
I love her but I'm just too shy,
and I don't know why.

Years passed, I looked down at the coffin
of a girl who used to be my 'best friend'.
At the service, they read a diary entry
she had wrote in her high school years.
This is what it read:
"I stare at him wishing he was mine;
but he doesn't notice me like that,
and I know it. I want to tell him,
I want him to know that
I don't want to be just friends,
I love him but I'm just too shy,
and I don't know why.

I wish he would tell me he loved me!
.........'I wish I did too...'
I thought to my self,

and I don't know why, I cried.

Things you miss/wish in life...

**5 minutes ago you were traveling to office at 80 mph. in your brand new car. Now you are traveling to hospital at double the speed in an ambulance, you wish there was 'undo (ctrl + Z)' in life!

**You are already late, and your key is missing, you wish there was 'find tool (ctrl+F)' in life!

**You are a bankrupt, after investing in some weird business, you wish there was 'rebuild all' in life!

**The train is so crowded that you cannot get anywhere near that nice girl at the other end, you wish there was 'zoom & view full screen' in life!

**After marriage you realize that there is bound to be a mismatch, you wish there was a valuation period' or at least a 'sample download' or a 'demo version'!

**One day you realize that you are turning bald, you wish there was 'cut and paste (ctrl + X)/ (ctrl + C)' in life!

& the best one is....

**The best part of the keyboard is U & I are together which is not always there in life...

Holding Hands

Holding Hands

A little girl and her father were crossing a bridge. The father was kind of scared so he asked his little daughter: "Sweetheart please hold my hand so that you don't fall into the river."

The little girl said, "No dad, you hold my hand." "What's the difference?" Asked the puzzled father.

Think Before You Send - Exposed - The Short Film

'Whatever I do, when all is said and done, I do for or to myself. Perhaps I should think before I perform actions because after the seed of action is sown I have to reap the fruit. Moreover, I do not receive only one fruit for every seed sown, I often get a whole crop, good or bad according to the action or seed.' - Brahma Kumaris.

I recently came across a link to the beautiful short video for the avid internet users (specifically young by age) and would like to share with all.  This is a short film (just over 10 minutes) called 'Exposed' being promoted by Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre, UK which deals with the subject of cyberbullying and sexting.

It gives a wonderful social message of what to do and what not to do in the world of the internet.  Request you all the share this to all the young and adults to create awareness.

Wisdom of Day!!!

When I was a Child,
None of my friends had a watch.
But they had time..

Now they all have Branded watches,
But none of them have time..!

"Hey EVEREST I will come back again,
As a Mountain you can't grow, but as a Man I can"
